One-Dimensional person

Some words about this group of pics:
Marcuse put forward a concept in the book "One-Dimensional Man: Studies in the Ideology of Advanced Industrial Society" called "One-Dimensional". Marcuse believes that a highly developed industrial society uses high technology and automation to achieve high production and high consumption, and creates "false needs" through commercial advertisements, making people addicted to material enjoyment, and social control and manipulation are deeply rooted in people. The instincts and emotions of this cause people to think and act according to the model prescribed by society, lose their inherent criticality, autonomy, and creativity, and become a "single-faced man", comfortably slaves to industrial civilization. The "equalization" of consumption between employers and employees, bosses and workers has caused the proletariat to paralyze the critical consciousness of society and lose its ability to protest against the existing system and unite with the former opponent of the bourgeoisie to jointly safeguard peace. Improve the existing system. This assimilation of the political positions of the opposing classes has achieved social integration, turning the developed industrial society into a "one-sided society" without opposition. In this society, one-sidedness has also become the fundamental feature of its ideology, and all ideologies are spiritual tools that suppress people's revolutionary nature.
This group of photos is based on the understanding of Marcuse's "one-dimensional" concept. I use uniforms and hats to express the daily serious and rigid modern urban crowd, but at the same time, I use gauze to blur the faces of the people who are coming. This is to allow the model to map to every possible modern person, not to make people. Think of the model herself. Gauze itself is a metaphor for morbidity. The person in the photo is standing on a small disc, like a toy soldier we played with when we were young. This disc stipulates the role of people, restricts their actions, makes people forget their free identity, and dare not break free. In fact, where there are any constraints, everyone can run to the light of freedom at any time. In the next few photos, I designed a door-like frame, and the person behind the door discovered this door, so he was curious, he began to explore, and finally, he started struggling, really like those self-consciousness just awakened Modern people.
I try to use such scenes to show the contradiction between people and this society and the contradiction between people and themselves. These struggles are what I have experienced painfully, and I finally defeated those dark demons and found my own existence.
In the modern one-way society, everyone is chasing the same hotspots and trends, as if lost in the modern reinforced concrete and Cybernet. This kind of consistency and homogeneity made me feel deeply scared. This image is expressed concretely under the viaduct that I pass every day. In my opinion, the huge man-made concrete building of the viaduct is serious, rigid, regular, and cold, and inhumane. I hate everything that is dehumanized in a clear order. So I copied people in the open and flat ground under this bridge pier, letting people get lost in such reinforced concrete, aren't these people you, I, and him?
